The tanker truck exploded
A serious accident occurred early Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in Pont-Gaudin, at the southern entrance to Gonaïves.
A tanker truck carrying fuel from Port-au-Prince wandered onto the road before falling into a roadside ravine near the La Quinte River bridge. The truck immediately caught fire, causing thick columns of black smoke and widespread panic in the area.
According to witnesses, several people, including residents and passersby, died in the flames. Charred bodies were found at the scene. The human and material toll remains unknown, as rescue efforts were severely limited by the intensity of the fire and the lack of firefighters in the area.
An investigation is underway to shed light on the circumstances of the tragedy and to establish an accurate count of the victims and their identities.
