Haiti: EDE party calls for a reorientation of the transition process

Delmas, May 14, 2025.-The EDE political party expressed, in an official correspondence, its deep concern about the continuation of the Presidential Transitional Council.

The party claims that this structure is no longer fulfilling its missions and is fueling an unprecedented political and social crisis.

EDE recalls that the CPT was supposed to organize a constitutional referendum and lead the country toward free elections before February 2026. However, the referendum announced for May 11, 2025, did not take place. The party concludes that the transition project has failed.

According to a report by the National Human Rights Defense Network, the CPT costs the Haitian government 93.5 million gourdes per month.

If this expenditure continues until 2026, it will reach 748 million gourdes.

For EDE, it is unjustifiable to waste so much public money while hospitals are being destroyed or closed, teachers are not being paid, and insecurity is growing.

EDE also criticizes the CPT's internal management. The party denounces repeated scandals, internal quarrels, persistent arrogance, and a complete lack of results.

The EDE party calls on the CARICOM EPG to acknowledge this shift. It calls for a new direction for the transition, based on transparency, efficiency, and attention to national priorities. According to EDE, only a break with current practices will restore the trust of the Haitian people
