Portrait and fatal journey of Noutwòp, number 2 of Savien's Gran grif gang

Huguens Noreston, better known as Noutwòp, number 2 in the Gran Grif gang of Savien, breathed his last on the afternoon of Friday, May 16, 2025, at his home in Savien, under unknown circumstances.

Having suffered for several months, the news of Noutwòp's death made the media numerous times. Finally, it was confirmed to the newspaper by members of his family, known for their distance from his life as a criminal.

"Until Friday, May 16, 2025, he was alive. His condition, truly critical, was worsening by the minute. "He spent days and nights moaning, begging his accomplices to end his life," revealed a family friend, who told Le Nouvelliste that "the Norestons, in general, feel somewhat relieved from the moral burden of the heinous crimes they bore and which still shame his entire family."

Originally from Blain, a neighborhood of Jean-Denis, in the first communal section of Petite-Rivière de l'Artibonite, Noutwòp is one of the founding members of the Gran Grif gang, which was originally intended to protect the area's farmland and livestock from prison escapees who would take them over. This agricultural brigade, led by Odma Louissaint, was financed by Rivartibonitians living in the United States of America who owned gardens.

It was on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, that the nature of the group would change. Its members committed heinous acts. That day, "A bus was held up and the passengers robbed and raped," recalls journalist Venès Désir of Vens Promo Média, who points out that at the time, "the Haitian National Police used these men to fight gangsters."

Becoming the Gran Grif de Savien gang, the former regional protection brigade has brought tears to the eyes of tens of thousands of people in several communes of the Artibonite department, from 2018 to the present day. After the death of "president" Odma Louissaint in January 2021, Noutwòp rose to second place in the gang, alongside the new leader Lucson Élan.

The cause of Noutwòp's death is uncertain. Relatives claim he tested positive for HIV. Others cite a stomach ulcer and lung disease, combined with the fact that he was an alcoholic. However, one source claims he was afflicted with a sinister recipe, popularly known as "ve."

Died far from his wife and children living in Canada, Noutwòp, extremist and excessive as his name suggests, was considered the most criminal bandit in Gran Grif, as he was always merciless.

"Huguens Noreston, known as Noutwòp, found pleasure in beheading, cutting up, and dismembering men and women, adults and children, with his machete and knife. He was never satisfied with the suffering inflicted on those wounded by gunfire. He filmed his victims and sent videos of his sadistic exploits to their parents. He practiced all forms of physical torture and sexual violence," explained journalist Bertide Horace, spokesperson for the Commission for Dialogue and Awareness-Raising to Save the Artibonite.

The confirmation of Noutwòp's death is being celebrated as a great victory in the Artibonite. Cries of celebration are ringing out from everywhere, especially since the latest news suggests that several leaders of Savien's Gran Grif gang are in poor health. For followers of spiritualism, karma is doing its work.
